The Banbridge community has gathered to remember Taylor Hill, a much-loved 21-year-old who tragically passed away at the weekend.
A poignant funeral Mass was held today at St. Thérèse’s Church, where family, friends, teammates and members of the wider community came together to celebrate Taylor’s life and say their final goodbyes.
Taylor was remembered as a talented sporting all-rounder and a member of the Clann na Banna senior men’s team. His sudden death has left his family, friends and the Banbridge sporting community devastated.
Taylor Hill Remembered by His Family
Taylor’s father, Rory, spoke during the funeral about the extraordinary support shown by the Banbridge community.
He described his son as a brilliant child who was loved by everybody and said the large gathering demonstrated what a special town and community Banbridge is.
Rory described the funeral as a “fantastic send-off” for Taylor and encouraged those mourning his loss to remember the good times they shared with him.
Taylor Hill’s Final Gift of Organ Donation
One of Taylor’s brothers, Cathal, also paid an emotional tribute during the Mass.
Cathal spoke about Taylor’s strength during his final hours at Craigavon Area Hospital, where he passed away on Saturday.
He said Taylor had, “by some miracle stayed strong” for organ donation, allowing multiple families to receive hope during their darkest moments.
Cathal revealed that Taylor’s heart was among the organs donated and ultimately helped save the life of someone who was undergoing emergency surgery.
He said the family had always known Taylor had a strong heart, adding that it was ultimately proven true through his final act of generosity.
Taylor’s decision to become an organ donor has added an extraordinary element to his legacy, with his family finding some comfort in knowing that his life helped give others another chance.
A Lasting Legacy
For Taylor’s family and friends, his death represents an immense loss. At just 21, he had already made a lasting impression through his sporting talents, friendships and relationships within the Banbridge community.
His family’s words during the funeral reflected both the deep pain of losing him and the pride they feel in the lives he helped touch, even in his final moments.
The support shown by the community has provided some comfort to those closest to Taylor as they begin to navigate life without him.
