Veronica Kruz, 38, has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as the woman who was fatally shot in Chicago early Sunday morning, August 16, 2026.
According to the information provided, Chicago police officers responded around 3:43 a.m. to reports of a person shot near 13th Street and Throop Street. When officers arrived, they found Kruz suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
She was transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she was pronounced dead.
