Two people have been arrested following a shooting outside a grocery store in Costa Mesa, California, that left a man critically injured Tuesday morning.
According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, officers responded at approximately 7:30 a.m. to a parking lot in the 2100 block of Newport Boulevard, near a Stater Bros. grocery store, after receiving reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found an unidentified man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Police launched an investigation and search for the person or people responsible. SWAT officers and drones were deployed as authorities worked to secure the area and locate suspects.
Two Arrested in Costa Mesa Shooting
Several hours after the shooting, at approximately 3 p.m., police announced the arrests of 37-year-old Rodney Otis Rich and his 63-year-old mother, Tammie Walker, in connection with the incident.
Authorities said the victim’s injuries were critical but not considered fatal.
Police also stated that the shooting does not appear to be gang-related. No motive has been released, and investigators have not provided additional details about what led to the shooting.
