Virginia State University Shooting - Five Injured as Suspect Camron Harris Arrested

A shooting near the Virginia State University dormitories in Chesterfield County, Virginia, left five people injured early Saturday morning, August 15, 2026.

According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:28 a.m. to the 3300 block of Boisseau Street following a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds outside the university dormitories.

All five victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. One victim, who was initially reported to have life-threatening injuries, was later upgraded to critical condition. The remaining four victims suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Police have not released the victims’ names.

Five People Injured

Authorities provided the following information about the victims:

Male, 21 — nonstudent, critical injuries
Male, 23 — nonstudent, non-life-threatening injuries
Female, 19 — nonstudent, non-life-threatening injuries
Male, 17 — nonstudent, non-life-threatening injuries
Male, 20 — Virginia State University student, non-life-threatening injuries

The circumstances that led to the shooting remain part of the ongoing investigation.

Camron Harris Arrested

During the investigation, authorities identified Camron Harris, 19, of Henrico, Virginia, as a suspect.

Harris is not a student at Virginia State University.

Police located him inside Seward Hall on the university campus at approximately 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said Harris was found hiding inside a closet before being taken into custody.

He was subsequently transported to the Chesterfield County Jail.

Investigators obtained a total of eight felony warrants against Harris.

The warrants include:

Four counts of malicious wounding
Four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

Police said additional charges may be sought as the investigation continues.

Harris is being held without bond.

Investigation Continues

The shooting remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Virginia State University Police Department, ATF, and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office assisted Chesterfield County police with the investigation.

Several additional federal and state agencies have also offered assistance.
