The East Bernard, Texas, community is mourning the tragic deaths of Jeremy Jenkins and his wife, Brandy Jenkins, who were killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday night, August 15, 2026.
Jeremy, 51, was the athletic director and head football coach at East Bernard ISD, while Brandy, 46, worked as a teacher at East Bernard Junior High School. Their sudden deaths have left students, colleagues, athletes, friends and family members grieving.
Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins Killed in Crash
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal accident occurred at approximately 10:07 p.m. Saturday on State Highway 60.
A 2025 Tesla Model Y was traveling northbound on the highway when it approached a curve. Authorities said the vehicle failed to negotiate the curve, left the roadway to the east and overturned.
Jeremy and Brandy were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
East Bernard Community Mourns
The deaths came less than a week after students returned to East Bernard ISD for the 2026-27 school year.
Superintendent Courtney Hudgins expressed condolences in a message to families on Sunday, describing Jeremy and Brandy as much more than the positions they held within the district.
She remembered them as educators, mentors, colleagues, friends and family members and called on the East Bernard community to support one another during the difficult period.
The school district is making counseling and other support services available to students and staff affected by the tragedy.
Jeremy Jenkins’ Football Legacy
Jeremy Jenkins was preparing to begin his third season as head football coach of the East Bernard Brahmas.
During his first two seasons leading the program, the team compiled a 20-7 record. The Brahmas were scheduled to open their 2026 season against Sweeny on August 28.
Beyond his role on the football field, Jenkins was remembered as an important figure within the East Bernard school community. His work as athletic director and coach allowed him to influence numerous students and athletes.
His death has therefore created a significant loss for the school district and the football program.
Brandy Jenkins Remembered
Brandy Jenkins was also part of the East Bernard education community, working as a teacher at East Bernard Junior High School.
Together, Jeremy and Brandy were known not only through their professional roles but also as members of the wider community.
Their deaths have left students, fellow educators and friends facing the difficult task of continuing the new school year without two people who had played important roles in the lives of local families.
