A 56-year-old man was rushed to hospital in critical condition after a shooting in a residential neighbourhood of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Tuesday night.
Mounties responded to reports of shots fired in the 11400 block of 236 Street at approximately 10 p.m. The Maple Ridge RCMP said officers arrived and found a lone victim inside a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Paramedics were called to the area near 236 Street and 114A Avenue at approximately 10:09 p.m. Multiple ground and air medical resources responded to the scene.
The victim received emergency medical treatment before being transported to hospital in critical condition.
Maple Ridge Shooting Investigation Underway
The RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.
Forensic identification officers were still processing the scene Wednesday as investigators worked to establish exactly what happened.
Bullet holes were reportedly visible in the driver’s-side window of a white Jeep SUV that appeared to be central to the investigation.
Police said the investigation remains in its early stages. Officers are gathering evidence, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood for surveillance footage and other information that could help identify what led to the shooting.
Police Seek Witnesses and Video
Authorities have not released information about a possible suspect or motive.
The RCMP said no further details would be released publicly at this stage while investigators continue their work.
